Mixing characterization inside micro - droplets engineered on a

چکیده
We use a micro-device where micro-droplets of reagents are generated and coalesce in a carrier continuous phase. The work focuses on the characterization of the mixing step inside the droplets, in the perspective to use them for chemical kinetic data acquisition. A dye and water are used, and an acid-base instantaneous chemical reaction is monitored thanks to a colored indicator. Acquisitions are done with a high speed camera coupled to a microscope and a mixing parameter is calculated by image analysis. Different angles of bended channels and different ways of coalescence are compared. It is shown that the homogenization of the droplets can be reached in less than ten milliseconds after coalescence. This is achieved by forcing the droplets to coalesce in a “shifted” way, and later by adding 45 degrees angle bends along the channel.

Controllable Active Micro Droplets Merging Device Using Horizontal Pneumatic Micro Valves
We present an active droplet merging device, which can merge various sizes of micro droplets in different numbers by using pneumatically controlled horizontal PDMS microvalves. The merging part consists of a main and side channels separated by a pillar array. The pillar array structure is contained within a microfuidic channel. The function of the pillar array provides a bypass path to the cont...

متن کاملStatistical Modeling for Oblique Collision of Nano and Micro Droplets in Plasma Spray Processes
Spreading and coating of nano and micro droplets on solid surfaces is important in a wide variety of applications including plasma spray coating, ink jet printing, DNA synthesis and etc. In spraying processes, most of droplets collide obliquely to the surface. The purpose of this article is to study the distribution of nano and micro droplets spreading when droplets impact at an oblique a...
متن کاملA study of EWOD-driven droplets by PIV investigation.
Despite the recent interest in droplet-based microfluidics using electrowetting-on-dielectric (EWOD), fundamental understanding of the fluid dynamics remains limited to two-dimensional (2D) reduction of the Navier-Stokes equation. Experimental data are in dire need to verify the predictions and advance the field. We report an investigation of the flow inside droplets actuated by EWOD in air usi...

We consider mixing via chaotic advection in microdroplets suspended at the free surface of a liquid substrate and driven along a straight line using the thermocapillary effect. With the help of a model derived by Grigoriev Phys. Fluids 17, 033601 2005 we show that the mixing properties of the flow inside the droplet can vary dramatically as a function of the physical properties of the fluids an...
